Connecting the Dots Tool

The Connecting the Dots website was launched in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly by the Honourable Speaker, Dr. Kodela Siva Prasada Rao on Monday, 28th March, 2016. The website is a one-of-a-kind platform that aims to equip MLAs in Andhra Pradesh to take environmentally sensitive decisions based on key climatic and socio-economic information collected from their respective districts. It further identifies potential climate financing opportunities that can be accessed in order to fund project ideas. It also includes an interactive platform that can be used by the public to connect with the climate champion MLAs. The website has been developed as part of the Connecting the Dots Programme, implemented by Athena Infonomics and the British High Commission.

A distinctive opportunity for AP: Andhra Pradesh is at the cusp of economic opportunity and environmental challenges. As the emerging investment destination, it is necessary for the state to create infrastructure in order to ensure that development takes place in a synchronised and sustainable manner. This also provides the state an opportunity to achieve the Swarnandhra Vision in a sustainable and resilient manner. In this backdrop, legislators will have an increasingly pivotal role to play in ensuring the sustainable development of the state.

Prioritise, Fund and Connect: The website achieves three objectives: (1) prioritise: using climate and socio-economic data, the website assists MLAs in prioritising their ideas and interventions in order to ensure sustainable impact; (2) fund: the website provides vital information on global, national and private sources of funding that are specific to climate finance, across a set of critical parameters and (3) connect: it provides an interactive platform for MLAs to address public grievances or suggestions towards local action on low carbon and resilient development.

The programme has developed a network of MLAs across political parties, who have pledged to develop their constituencies, sustainably. The aim of the programme is to equip MLAs to undertake local initiatives to support a low carbon and resilient Andhra Pradesh. This programme is also being implemented in Madhya Pradesh.
