Women and girls are entitled to sanitation options that offer privacy and dignity. Why is this so hard to come by in low- and middle-income countries? Further, limited attention is paid to gender-intentional policies, budgets, and institutional structures that promote equal representation and participation in sanitation decision-making and the workforce.

Dr. Y. Malini Reddy, our Director of WASH in South Asia, recently addressed this issue in a session on gender-intentional sanitation during the ADBI-Toyo University Training Program on City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation Policy and Innovation in Asia.

Held in Tokyo, this training program brought select policy makers from across Asia together with WASH experts to consider the design and accelerated implementation of city-wide inclusive sanitation projects throughout Asia.
