Empowering Digital Public Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth: T20 Policy Insights
AUTHOR:
Athena Infonomics

At Athena Infonomics, we're proud to share our latest T20 policy brief on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), developed in collaboration with Development Gateway: An IREX Venture. As part of the T20's knowledge contribution to the G20, our research examines how targeted approaches to DPI can make digital transformation more accessible and inclusive, building on lessons from India's comprehensive IndiaStack.

Our partnerships are driving real change:

  • Working with the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation (MWDS) in Zambia to revolutionize WASH sector data systems
  • Collaborating with Ethiopia's Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) on the aLIVE program, prioritizing data standards and governance in livestock management
  • Building frameworks that strengthen data ecosystems and advance SDG progress

Based on these experiences, we recommend four key actions for the G20:

  • Establish common data maturity assessment frameworks
  • Develop standardized protocols for the new Social Impact Fund
  • Create global repositories of best practices
  • Build communities of practice for knowledge sharing

As DPI standards evolve, we're committed to developing frameworks that prioritize equity, resilience, and access to digital public goods (DPGs). Our work demonstrates that successful digital transformation requires balancing ambitious infrastructure goals with practical, context-specific implementation strategies.

Special thanks to our partners in government, development, and civil society who make these transformative initiatives possible. Together, we're setting the stage for more resilient and equitable public services.
