Athena participated in the FSM5 and AfricaSan5 conference held in Cape Town, showcasing its work in the Fecal Sludge Management (FSM) space. The 5-day FSM5 program ran from 18th-22nd February, and saw global actors in the FSM space converge with a shared aim of making FSM an integral part of sanitation service delivery. Deepa Karthykeyan (co-founder and director) and Kowshik Ganesh (senior consultant) delivered a presentation on a new approach to track desludging operations, without the use of GPS tracking devices.
Athena also conducted a half-day workshop demonstrating its refined FSM toolbox platform for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The latest version hosts several new functions, catering to the realities of Bangladesh, India, Senegal, South Africa and Laos. Attendees were enthused by the toolbox and its potential to change the way we collect, analyze and use evidence in managing FSM.
