As a part of an initiative to generate political will in advancing the institutionalization of citywide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) as an approach in government structures, Athena Infonomics' Sonia Shahid conducted a knowledge exchange session centered on baseline CWIS findings from our work in the city of Saidpur, Bangladesh. These findings were delivered to officials in the city's Municipal Council—the highest governing body of Saidpur.
During this event, Athena shared an updated status of the waste flow and excreta flow occurring throughout the city, and participants considered: how the municipality currently functions in terms of responsibility and accountability; how they plan and manage city resources; which institutions play a role as key influencers in the city's sanitation actions; and how these institutions ensure that city services are delivered safely, equitably, and sustainably.
