The Water and Sanitation Finance Program for Organic Cotton Growers of Madhya Pradesh is a collaborative initiative by Water.org and Action for Social Advancement (ASA) aimed at addressing water and sanitation challenges among organic cotton producers. Spanning over 300 villages across seven districts in Madhya Pradesh, the program targeted over 3,600 households, offering critical water and sanitation credit assistance. By focusing on improving water availability, sanitation facilities, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, the initiative aimed to enhance health and hygiene, boost income-generation opportunities, and foster overall community well-being within these organic cotton-growing communities.
The program evaluation employed a robust mix of quantitative and qualitative methods to assess its impact. This included a comparative analysis of target and control groups, comprising 371 quantitative interviews and 115 control group interviews, ensuring a representative sample across the region. Additionally, focus group discussions and case studies provided deeper insights into individual and community experiences. The evaluation measured the program’s success in enhancing water and sanitation access, improving agricultural productivity, and driving socioeconomic upliftment, while also identifying challenges and opportunities for further improvement.
