Water.org has entrusted Athena Infonomics to carry out program monitoring visits around Water.org's WaterCredit Initiative loan program, including the monitoring of partner field activities in India and Bangladesh. Water.org designed this program to empower those living in poverty with access to affordable credit to meet their own water and sanitation needs. This comprehensive initiative puts microfinance tools to work in the water and sanitation sector.
Following initial data-collection, Athena has submitted a draft report analyzing (as part of Phase 1): whether clients used the loan (or a portion of the loan) for the intended water and/or sanitation improvement, client satisfaction with the loan process and with the improvement and its functionality; and changes in income, perceived health, women’s empowerment, and time savings resulting from the improvement.
