Using Data Science to Predict Future Increases in Women and Girls' Literacy Rates

Methodology

To calculate the estimates, a model which has the starting point 0 (which indicates 0 zero literacy rate at point far back in time) and a highest possible value of 100 (which can practically never be achieved or mathematically be possible only after "infinite" years) was taken. Using this asymptotic model (where literacy rate converges to 100), literacy estimates were calculated for the year 2030.

Summary

Though the growth in literacy rate has been rapid in the last few years, achieving every incremental increase in literacy is that much more difficult. However, the estimates predict that the Literacy rate for young females (15-24) would be around 90.3% by the year 2030 and for females 15 and above, this rate will be around 70.1%. This is a big milestone as a 50% increase in literacy for young females and 45% increase in literacy for females over 15 would be possible in a span of just 50 years.
